Visions Of Indigo
Visions of Indigo is a body of work created for my MFA Thesis exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Debuting in May of 2018 in our graduate show INKMADE, this series explores my infatuation with outer space, extraterrestrial life, and the influence that aliens may have had on ancient cultures and the cultivation of human society. After experiencing Machu Picchu in 2015 and seeing the ruins there I was convinced that ancient people had in fact interacted with these beings long ago, and felt it was my calling to create art based on what that alien culture might look like if we found remnants of it today.
The first six pieces are collaged paper on wood panel, and the last three masks are made from paper mache, then painted and hand adorned with beads, feathers, and trinkets.
After showing this series at FIT, the largest piece entitled ‘The Awakening’ was selected as a finalist in the Delusional Art Competition put on by Jonathan Levine Gallery.
Later in 2019, the largest piece entitled ‘The Awakening’ and the piece ‘SheCloud’ were selected for the 17th edition of Create! Magazine, MFA edition.
